After the success of ‘Enola Holmes’ in 2020 with both critics and audiences welcoming the new brilliant brain to their list of favourite detectives, the year 2022 is all set to bring another Enola film Holmes ie ‘Enola Holmes 2’.

A new trailer for the film was released on YouTube on October 11. Both films are adaptations of Nancy Springer’s young adult detective fiction The Enola Holmes Mysteries. Since then the series consists of seven novels written between 2006 and 2021.

Who is this new Holmes?

When Harry Bradbeer first brought Enola to the screen, viewers who had not read the Springer books were taken aback by the introduction of another detective (apparently) with the second name of Holmes.

Of course, the world was used to only one Holmes and that’s the idiosyncratic and very unsocial Sherlock, created by the British author Arthur Conan Doyle one hundred and one years before Springer gave birth to his younger sister Enola.

It was a big risk to make a movie about her as Sherlock’s deep influence and his unmatched intelligence could change the hostile atmosphere for a young woman of the same family to have her own quality overshadowed even if she is as that of her older brother.

‘Holmes’- the name by which Watson addressed his detective friend a million times, sometimes to express his confusion, sometimes surprise, has been connected to a girl who comes out of nowhere! Is it possible?

So, it was basically a risk to make a mainstream film about Enola Holmes as it was for Springer, only much more so, when she first created the character. But if Enola came out of nowhere, so did Sherlock when she first appeared in Scotland’s dockyard.

The English modernist writer of the 20th century Virginia Woolf in her essay ‘A Room of One’s Own’ created a fictional sister of William Shakespeare who has the same talent to show how difficult it’s for a lady to rise to fame and the -prominence by a man. .

The character of Enola Holmes does the same job, even though Springer’s writing and Millie Bobby Brown’s brilliant appearance give Enola her own stature as an individual human being.

When everybody was watching Sherlock, one of the smartest minds the world has ever discovered, solving one strange and impossible to crack mystery after another, his little sister was largely locked up in a house with ‘ her mother Eudoria.

Her mother who was a pro at anagrams and taught it to her daughter also named her Enola which spells Alone backwards. But what confined Enola, in reality, is the Victorian era which was not in favor of ladies and girls who wanted to be independent and weren’t ready to conform to the established social rules.

At home her mother taught her to be an informed young woman brave and good at heart with a skill in chess to jujutsu. She knows about her very successful detective brother but hasn’t met him until the first story.

Millie Bobby Brown as Enola

Millie Bobby Brown gained recognition after portraying Eleven in Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ as she joined the cast of the series with other child actors and actresses. This eighteen-year-old British actress has received much critical acclaim since then.

She portrays the titular Enola Holmes in the 2020 film with Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, Sam Claflin as Mycroft Holmes, Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade, Susie Wokoma as Edith, a British suffragist and martial artist and Louis Patridge as Tewkesbury, a boy she meets while looking for her missing mother and ends up helping him escape from a man who wants to kill him.

All of them will be seen reprising their roles in the sequel aside from Claflin. New cast members such as Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Thewlis, Hannah Dodd will appear in important roles.

Brown portrayed Enola brilliantly mixing animation and determination in her character. Peter Debruge of Variety compared her acting in the film to Keira Knightley saying that “her acting style recalls the effusive spontaneity” that the latter “gathered for ‘Pride and Prejudice, breaking the a strict property of so many Jane Austen adaptations before it.”

‘Enola Holmes 2’ Trailer and When the movie will be released:

‘Enola Holmes’ was initially slated by Warner Bros. for theatrical release. But the pandemic made Netflix catch up. The second film whose development was confirmed in April 2021, will even be distributed by Netflix.

In Enola Holmes 2, Enola will be seen struggling with people taking her seriously as a professional detective and then taking on the case of the mystery of a missing girl. The first part of the official trailer was released on YouTube on September 24 of this year. The second part was available on 11 October.

Enola Holmes 2 will arrive on November 4, 2022, on Netflix.
