The upcoming film ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ is a crime drama film. Jamie Payne directed the film which serves as a continuation of the same British television series that ran between 2010 and 2019.
The British psychological crime thriller series ‘Luther’ is an award-winning television show that has won eleven Primetime Emmy nominations and stars British actor Idris Elba in the lead role.
The upcoming film is a reimagining and continuation of the tv series that revolves around John Luther, a brilliant detective who becomes disgraced after being framed for murder.
He is haunted by his failure sitting behind the bar and decides to get out of jail and continue running. Meanwhile, London is being terrorized by a horrible serial killer.
When Will ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ Release?
The possibility of a film adaptation based on a prequel of the tv series first became a reality in August 2013. Then in July 2020, Idris Elba stated that no plans for one more series of the show are being planned but he is prepared to return to this role in a film.
In September 2021, the film was confirmed to be released on Netflix. Cast members Andy Serkis and Cynthia Erivo also joined the cast with Elba that month.
Principal photography began on November 10, 2021. Luther: The Fallen Sun is scheduled to release in select theaters on February 24, 2023. Top Netflixthe film will arrive on March 10 this year.

English actress and singer Cynthia Erivo will be starring as an associate of Luther in the next film.
Erivo was nominated for two Academy Awards one of them as Best Actress for her role in the biographical film ‘Harriet’ featuring Araminta “Minty” Ross / Harriet Tubman and another for Best Original Song.
Her other film credits include ‘Widows’, ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’, ‘Walking Chaos‘,’A Needle in a Timestack‘, ‘Pinocchio’, ‘And Drift’, the last of which was released only on January 22, 2023, at the Sundance International Film Festival.
Besides ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’, Elba will also star in another upcoming film which is an epic musical fantasy film ‘Wicked: Part One’. The movie is still being filmed and will arrive next year. Elba will play Elphaba in that film.
Erivo starred as a series regular in the role of Holly Gibney in the 2020 psychological thriller crime drama series ‘The Outsider’ adapted from the 2018 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The following year she was cast in the lead role of Aretha Franklin in the period drama anthology series ‘Genius’.
British actor director and producer Andy Serkis will star in the upcoming film as David Robey, a tech billionaire and serial killer who manipulates and kills civilians through the use of surveillance technology.
Serkis voiced the role of Gollum in the film trilogy of Lord of the Rings. Serkis’ other film credits include ‘Sex and Drugs and Rock & Roll‘,’Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘,’These of the Planet of the Apes‘,’War for the Planet of the Apes‘, ‘King Kong’ etc.
