John Wick 4 Updates: Ian McShane, who plays John Wick’s nemesis Winston sheds some light on the next John Wick series, hinting that the film is anticipated to start production this year.

The first John Wick starring Keanu Reeves hit theaters in 2014 after spawning two successful sequels.

With a production budget of $20 million, the first film grossed $86 million worldwide, with each subsequent installment topping the last.

The last film of the series, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, was suspect until the end of the franchise. John Wick 3 ends with a fierce fight to protect The Continental in which John Wick is shot by Manager Winston, played by McShane.

However, it’s later revealed that Wick didn’t die as he’s taken to the Bowery King and is presented with a chance for revenge. This allows for a fairly smooth transition to John Wick 4. But as the world came to a standstill because of the Covid-19 pandemic, production went out the window.

John Wick 4: What does Ian McShane must say?

John Wick 4

The film’s original release date was May 21, 2021, but because of Reeve’s involvement in both John Wick 4 and The Matrix 4, these are in jeopardy as the -both films had the same date. So, John Wick 4 is now slated to release on May 27, 2022.

After many delays and little information about the trilogy, McShane revealed in an interview that they may be preparing for production on John Wick 4 sometime in 2021. He said:

“Keanu [Reeves] and that I exchanged New Year’s greetings and said, “I hope to see you this year.” I know the script is written, and they’re hoping to do it this year.

I know they announced they would [The Movie ] and [John Wick 5] together, but who knows. The studios announce all sorts of things. Undoubtedly, at some point this year, we will do John Wick 4.”

It was also officially announced by Lionsgate that John Wick 5 would shoot concurrently with The Movie as Keanu Reaves becomes available in early 2021.

As the film industry struggles to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it makes sense for the studio to depend on a film like John Wick that has an established legacy of high box office returns to carry it forward.
