Netflix recently released a trailer for A24’s upcoming diving documentary, The Deepest Breath, which focuses on the extreme sport of freediving.
Did you know that freediving is probably the most dangerous sports in the world? So much so that the scale of Mount Everest is taken into account less dangerous.
Given the nature of free diving, it’s not surprising that it’s fatal. The Deepest Breath, an upcoming Netflix and A24 documentary, will follow a champion freediver’s try to break the freediving world record.

Laura McGann’s documentary The Deepest Breath follows the life and interests of champion freediver Alessia Zecchini.
Italian freediver, Alessia Zecchini, set a world record in her class by diving 109 meters in three minutes and 38 seconds. She was only 18 years old when she set a previous world record in the dangerous sport of freediving.
They have committed their lives to the extreme sport, which takes physical strength, mental drive, and unwavering confidence in the individuals who teach and help you along the way, accompanied by her safety diver, Stephen Keenan.
We see how Zecchini and Keenan built an unbreakable friendship as Keenan helped Zecchini in her goal of becoming the best free diver in the world throughout the documentary.
Because of the risks of the sport, Zucchini’s desire was fraught with danger. The Deepest Breath will take fans on an intimate and heartfelt journey into the depths of the ocean with these two exceptional people, using archival video spanning 35 years, interviews with the parents of -subjects, and more.
Filming took place in cities such as Rome, New York, Ireland, and the Bahamas. The first trailer appeared ahead of Netflix’s July 19 release date.
For those unfamiliar with the extreme sport of freediving, it involves divers swimming as far as they can in the water while holding one breath.
In some respects, it’s similar to scuba diving, only the divers don’t use oxygen tanks. Instead, they train for years to dive the length of a building and beyond in one breath.
