Russell and Seth Gordon were originally signed to direct the film.

Nathan Fillion, Mark Wahlberg, and Chris Pratt were all contenders for Nathan Drake’s role, but the plot turned out to be an origin story. Tom Holland was chosen to play the role in 2017.

Initial response from fans

It has a “Dwayne-Johnson archetype-meets Indiana Jones” vibe. Fans were taken aback by the lack of character resemblance in Nathan Drake’s casting. The bigger outcry is about Drake’s mentor Victor Sullivan who appears to be missing his famous moustache.

Many fans were unhappy with Holland’s decision and they rewatched the Uncharted Live Action fan movie in 2018 in which Nathan Fillion plays the main role. Fillion expressed interest in playing Nathan Drake as early as 2009. He even started a Twitter campaign encouraging fans to support him. Fans were very happy with the short film. It is well worth the effort if you haven’t yet seen it.

Uncharted will be released in theaters across the United States on February 18, 2022, on IMAX 3D and RealD 3D.
